A farewell to Blazer Falcor
Honoring Blazer Falcor, a lifelong friend, tech enthusiast, and gaming partner. His legacy lives on through Extra Life fundraising in his name and a tribute in Sea of Stars. Forever missed, never forgotten.
Some friendships are built over time, forged through shared passions and countless experiences. For over 25 years, Blazer Falcor was more than just a friend—he was a teammate, a tech enthusiast, and a brother in arms. Whether it was in gaming, technology, or life, he always had my back.
The BBS Years: A Digital Brotherhood
In 1993, I launched a bulletin board system (BBS) called Le Cauchemar (The Nightmare). This was before the modern internet, where communities connected through dial-up connections, message boards, and text-based multiplayer games called door games.

Blazer was my CoSysOp. He helped manage the board, foster the community, and engage in the games that defined that era. Together, we curated files, ensured the system ran smoothly, and built a digital home for a group of like-minded tech enthusiasts.
That was the foundation of our friendship: an unwavering enthusiasm technology and collaboration.
A Passion for File Storage
Blazer had an almost obsessive love for file storage and organization. Long before cloud services made massive storage accessible, he was building and managing extensive collections of TV shows, media, and software.

He was the first person I knew who successfully ran a multi-disk large storage array in Windows — something few attempted at the time. But he didn’t stop there. As soon as TrueNAS (then known as FreeNAS under FreeBSD) became a viable option, he was the first to switch. He was always ahead of the curve, ensuring his storage solutions were efficient, redundant, and cutting-edge.
The Guild Wars Years: A Protector at Heart
In Guild Wars, Blazer played the tank, taking the hits so the rest of us could survive. It was a role that suited him perfectly—not just in the game, but in real life.

No matter the mission, dungeon, or raid, he was always on the frontlines, ensuring that his friends were safe. He embraced the role of protector, taking the brunt of every attack and never backing down. In every game we played, that same dedication carried over—he was fearless, dependable, and always willing to lead the charge.
Honoring Through Gaming
Gaming was a huge part of Blazer’s life, so it’s only fitting that it’s where his memory will live on.
When Sabotage Studio launched the Sea of Stars Kickstarter, they offered a unique memorial reward: the chance to immortalize someone in the game’s crypt. Thanks to this opportunity, Blazer’s name is now etched into the world of Sea of Stars—a tribute to his kindness, passion, and legacy.

For those who visit the in-game crypt, they will find a Blazer Falcor, forever remembered in a world of adventure and wonder.
A Friend, a Best-Man and a Legend
Blazer wasn’t just a gaming partner—he was family. His knowledge, generosity, and unwavering friendship made an impact that won’t be forgotten. My heart goes out to his parents and his brother, who will forever miss him.
Beyond this tribute, I want to honor him in a way that truly matters. Blazer faced many health challenges growing up, and it’s for this reason that I am dedicating all my future Extra Life fundraising efforts in his name. Extra Life supports children’s hospitals, giving kids facing medical struggles a chance at a better future—something I know Blazer would have stood behind wholeheartedly.
